"Doing qualitative research with immigrants: the question of representation"

Across Europe, growing social and political polarization often casts immigrants — particularly from the Global South — as scapegoats for economic and societal challenges. At the same time, funding for research and support of these groups is shrinking. In this climate, qualitative research matters more than ever — not just for academic insight, but for fostering inclusion and social change. Drawing on a health-promoting perspective, I will share insights from my research with forced migrants in Norway. Through a critical lens, I will explore: Who is represented? Who conducts the research? What drives it, and how are findings used? I will consider the value of decolonial perspectives and indigenous methodologies to challenge dominant narratives and create space for voices often silenced. This talk invites us to rethink qualitative research as a catalyst for equity and transformation.

Der Vortrag selbst (nicht jedoch die anschließende Diskussion) wird zudem via Zoom übertragen.
